Diode lasers for hair removal work with fixed wavelengths. 3W or 4W tells you how many wavelengths a device combines in one handpiece.

3W: three wavelengths
Combines three wavelengths in one handpiece, typically 755, 808 and 1064 nm.

Laser diodes
The light is produced in laser diodes that sit side by side on so-called bars.
Light and heat
The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and converted into heat there.
Contact cooling
Many handpieces cool the skin surface through a chilled contact window, for example made of sapphire.
Growth phases
